Art Package

Martinhal has had a commitment to working with Portuguese artists and artisans for more than a decade now with our commitment to our artists-in-residence programs and our Luxury Art and Design weekends in Martinhal Sagres.

We are excited to announce that we are working together with our favourite Portuguese artists in residence at Martinhal Residences on original creations for the building. The art package for your apartment will include lithos of some original works by Portuguese artists that Martinhal has carefully chosen to commission specific pieces for the Residences, framed and installed after the furniture pack has been installed.

The Artists

Graça Paz

Plastic artist born in Porto in 1967, Graça Paz chose to live and work in the rural north of Portugal. Greatly influenced by the musical environment in which she grew up, her work, mostly geometric abstract, bridges the gap between classical music and the way she emotionally, consciously or unconsciously expresses herself from the inside out in a context that contains no words. A student of emotional psychology she puts herself and her work at the centre of learning especially through watercolour in the search for a balance between rigidity and fluidity. Graça Paz studied art and the Ciesa course at the Árvore Cooperative and graduated in Fashion Design in Porto.

Tâmara Alves

The work of Tamara Alves represents an erotic view of a contemporary body with the effects of its own limits expanded. Instead of a rational thinking there’s a rough passion, a body-without- organs, a becoming animal, the experienced sensations, “starving histerical naked” (Allen Ginsberg). We are tigers, we have animal hearts. She works on all kinds of skin, from painting to illustration, from tattooing to urban art. Tamara is fascinated with a kind of art inserted in the world, she chooses to present her work of art in the street or in public spaces being a reference in the Portuguese Street Art.

Pedro Batista

Born in 1980, Pedro Batista soon developed an interest in painting. However, it was amidst the urban culture and atmosphere of the 90’s that Pedro found the freedom he needed to express himself and pursue a career in arts. After graduating in Communication Design, Pedro enrolled in a Residency Program at the New York School of Visual Arts where he explored, developed and perfected techniques. In 2010, Pedro decided to move to Berlin for 6 months for a creative retreat that allowed him to consolidate his passion for painting. Later, in 2015 he travels to Medellín, Colombia for an art residency at Campos de Gutierrez. These and other experiences in different international contexts provided Pedro with the opportunity to rethink his working practice from a formal point of view and to contextualize it in a broader international scene. Pedro has participated in several solo and collective exhibitions in Lisbon, Málaga, Medellín, Stockholm and New York, and he is currently based in Lisbon.
