The Elegant Group is built on 17 years’ experience creating and managing high-quality assets in Portugal. We are the developers, owners and operators of the Martinhal brand of luxury family resorts and real estate.
In 2015, they opened the Martinhal branded 180 villa resort in Quinta do Lago. In 2016 they opened the first city-centre luxury family hotel in Lisbon’s cultural quarter, Chiado, and a newly refurbished hotel in Lisbon’s coastal village of Cascais.
All four Martinhal hotels & resorts are based on private investors acquiring villas and apartments with the option to enter their property into the letting pool of the operator.
Since operation began in 2010, Martinhal has paid each and every owner their rent on time.
Their development in Martinhal Sagres established a reputation as a leading developer in Portugal. The 5-star resort on a 220.000sqm plot on an unspoiled location on the Algarve coast includes 37 hotel rooms, 132 village houses, 50 townhouses and villas with unique designs and a range of high quality leisure, sports, food and beverage facilities.
The couple have become known for creating destinations that have global appeal. To date they have achieved 239 sales of apartments and houses to individual expatriate buyers alone.

Eduardo Capinha Lopes is Lisbon’s leading architect and with his company Capinha Lopes Consulting, has worked on several commercial, high-end residential and luxury hotel projects all over the world. His current list of projects are in geographical locations that span from India to the USA. When asked about the inspirations behind the Martinhal Residences project, he said that the building sits in a prominent place at the Park of Nations, which is a landmark mixed use development in Lisbon. He felt the necessity to take into consideration that it will sit at quite a regal and beautiful spot within the Park of Nations – right next to Jardim do Cabeço das Rolas.
Architects, artists and buildings over decades from Hundertwasser in Vienna to the Bosco Verticale by Stefano Boeri in Milan inspired the owners to work with Eduardo Capinha Lopes to include natural elements into the façade.
“I have worked hard to deliver the client’s desire to integrate nature into the property. I have designed a luxury hotel residence building with superb facilities having requirements for great urban living, with views onto the Tagus River, as well as the iconic 17km Vasco da Gama Bridge – all with nature integrated into the façade!”
Roman and Chitra Stern are proud and honoured to be working with Capinha Lopes Consulting on this current project.
Apart from architecture and design, his other passions are motorbikes and cars. His company has offices in Lisbon, Porto, London, New Delhi and Port Louis.

Martinhal Residences is going to partner with a mobility services company. As part of the car sharing scheme, residents at Martinhal Residences will be offered access to a fleet of on-site BMW and MINI vehicles (or a range of cars from another high quality car brand) 24 hours a day via a dedicated app.
Martinhal Residences will dedicate parking spots to the car sharing scheme, each of which will be equipped with a full capacity charging station that can serve the electric BMW i3 or any other e-models included in the fleet of cars provided by our mobility partner.
The Martinhal Residence car mobility scheme will add electric vehicles to the fleet, which is seen as a big step towards reducing the environmental impact of private cars on the road.
The owners at Martinhal Residences will enjoy the freedom and convenience of on-demand access to cars directly in the building that they do not have to maintain themselves. Whether they need to run a few errands around town or want to get out of town for a long weekend, access to a car sharing scheme in the building will significantly improve mobility for residents.
